Nayer Mousavi was born in Tehran, Iran, and moved to the United States at a very young age. As a kindergartener in New York, one of her drawings won third place in a statewide competition—a moment that sparked her lifelong fascination with art. Having just learned about perspective from an episode of Sesame Street, she incorporated the concept into her winning painting, a discovery that left a lasting impression.
Although creativity remained a strong undercurrent in her life, Nayer grew up in a family of physicians who encouraged her toward a medical career and away from formal art training. She went on to become a dentist, a field that combined art and science and satisfied both her creative side and her scientific curiosity. The profession refined her attention to detail and precision—qualities that continue to influence her artistic practice today.
When her children reached high school, Nayer finally allowed herself to return to her first passion: painting. She studied at the New York Academy of Art, where she discovered her affinity for abstract expressionism, and has since trained with several well-known abstract artists through workshops and virtual courses.
Her paintings are deeply inspired by nature—its textures, cycles, and quiet strength—and the ways in which they reflect the human experience. Through layered surfaces and gestural abstraction, Nayer creates works that explore connection, harmony, and tension in the rhythms of life.
